I've always been a Harmony shipper, and even though I kinda liked the canon romances as presented in Half Blood Prince (both book and movie), I really think Harry and Hermione should have ended up together. The key moment for me in the movies, amid a barrage of smaller ones, is of course, the 'tent' scene and, for a moment, upon first viewing, I actually though they were going to kiss. Well, they should have.
"I liked that scene in the film, because it was articulating something I hadn't said but I had felt. I think you do feel the ghost of what could have been in that scene." - J.K. Rowling
"Now the fact is that Hermione shared some moments with Harry that Ron will never be able to participate in. He walked out. She shared something very intense with Harry... [hesitation] ... So, I think it could have been that way." - J.K. Rowling
Even J.K. Rowling herself all but admitted that Harry and Hermione should have been the ultimate pairing. Anyway, I digress. This is not supposed to be a discourse on the matter but an introduction to the 'prologue' chapters to my fan project, Harry Potter and the Rise of the Undead. Actually Rise started as as fan poster art for which I created some backstory. Now, I could probably have done that story just continuing canon but that didn't work in my head. I needed a 'logical' build-up. So I decided to subtly rewrite (ahem) what came before. Using movie captures and various drafts of the scripts, I created a 'comic,' with a storyline starting the summer after Chamber of Secrets, and making small, and sometimes not so small, changes in the characters' motivations, at least as far as the main romances are concerned. I have, on occasion used scenes deleted from the movie(s) and/or created entirely new ones in order to make sense of the entire process. This, of course, all leads up to the moments between Harry and Hermione in the tent and I figure, since this is obviously a Harmony fan-fiction AU, it's not much of a spoiler when I reveal that, in my version, they DO kiss. And it is this kiss that affects/alters the outcome of the romances, while the difficulties it presents upon Ron's return become the main thrust of the actual Rise of the Undead story. As mentioned before, Rise still only consists of a basic outline, although there are some reasonably well defined early 'sequences.' Seeing that I cannot use captures for this story, it will in all likelyhood, and on the far (very far) horizon, be just written fan-fiction, but maybe, just maybe, an actual comic. Of course, needless to say, these are fan projects at best with no commercial intentions whatsoever! So, what will Rise of the Undead be about? Well, Harry and Hermione want to be together but with Ron returning, and the war going on, they have a hard time telling him. So, they decide to wait until after the war... but then another problem arises: both Ron and Ginny have just lost a brother. "Hey guys, we're like all going to break up now and then Hermione and I are going to date." Not a likely conversation during a funeral, I figure. So while both Harry and Hermione are spending the summer at The Burrow, friendships and near-family are at stake with this daunting secret hovering over their heads. Amid the rising tensions, Harry discovers a plot by a bunch of renegade Death Eaters, led by Igor Karkaroff, to resurrect Slavic witch Baba Yaga, in order to attack the Muggle world with an army of the undead. To complicate matters, 7th year is about to start up again at Hogwarts, with Harry and Hermione chosen as Head Boy and Head Girl - with adjoining private rooms no less - while a delegation of students, among which Harry, Hermione and Ron, are invited, along with a selection of Beauxbatons girls, to Prague by the Durmstrang Institute of Magic Learning. You can check out the serialized prologue by clicking on the top poster of follow it on Tumblr HERE!
